Mystic Topaz Rings

Mystic Topaz Rings

by admin

Mystic topaz rings are a unique gift to give for any occasion. Alone, the stones are moderately priced depending on size, weight, clarity and cut. In a ring, the buyer may end up paying as much or more for the setting of the stone as he or she does for the stone. A common method for selling the stone is to set it in an expensive band gold, white gold or platinum to boost the price of the jewelry, elevating both the cost of the stone and the metal. While shopping for a mystic topaz ring, the person should be careful to evaluate the stones based on their cut, size and clarity, before determining if the purchase is worthwhile.

Topaz is a stone mined primarily in the Ural and Ilmen Mountains. There are also a few large mineral mines in the United States. Of the stones mined, only the clearest, most imperfection free can be well used to create mystic topaz. Because of the treatment that creates the stone, it requires the very finest clarity. Any tainting of imperfection in color will have an impact on how stones reflect light, dimming and eliminating the ratio of colors that glow on the facets. This matters, because valuable Mystic topaz rings will reflect all the colors in a spectrum.

Once the clearest stones have been selected, the rock is treated with a fine titanium particle that bonds to it and causes it to reflect the many colors. Both clarity and a thorough bonding process are required for stones to come out looking their best. Shallow titanium bonding will reduce the number of colors in the spectrum that a stone will reflect. Over treating a stone will result in a dim or cloudy appearance. Based on all of these factors, a stone must be judged.

The best quality stones clear, well treated should sell for around twenty dollars a carat (price ascending at four carats, as larger stones are rarer) while most will retail loose, for about ten to twelve dollars a carat. Set in a ring, the whole price of the piece will also be valued by the metal and the complexity of the setting. The popularity of topaz as a wedding stone has improved the availability of high quality stones and more jewelers are using them in fine metal settings. The jewelry shopper should expect to pay between fifty and one hundred dollars for any non-engagement ring.
